Militant Killed In Poonch

Poonch: A Hizbul Mujahideen militant was gunned down and another injured by Army and police in an encounter at Haryana Top in Sangiot area of Mendhar tehsil this afternoon while Poonch Brigade and CID (Counter Intelligence) recovered 6 kg RDX and a large quantity of ammunition from Jamia Gali, Pir Panchal in this border district.Official sources said troops of 37 Rashtriya Rifles and a Gursai police station party headed by SHO Inspector Surjeet Singh launched a search operation at Haryana Top, Sangiot this morning after developing a specific input about the presence of two militants in the area. SSP Poonch Jagjit Kumar also rushed to the spot. In about two hour long operation, Army and police killed one militant and injured another. The injured ultra managed to escape and was being searched by the security personnel. Slain militant has been identified as Abu Magaaz, a top activist of Hizbul Mujahideen. Recoveries made from the scene of encounter include one AK-47 rifle, four magazine, 90 rounds, one radio set, two grenades, one wireless set, one antenna, one dairy, four pencil cells and one SIM card. Troops of Poonch Brigade and CID (Counter Intelligence) sleuths destroyed a hide-out of the militants at Jamia Gali in Pir Panchal area of this district after three days of search operation. Recoveries include 6 kg RDX, seven rifle grenades, 11 boosters, three AGLs, 760 Pika rounds, 750 AK rounds and two pouches of pistol. No arrests were made from the hide-out. One pistol with one magazine and 10 rounds, 10 UBGL grenades and four RPG shells were recovered by security forces from Kalai Top in Poonch. Our Jammu correspondent adds: Police today arrested two fake militants and recovered a large sum of money and valuables extorted by them from the innocent villagers. Giving details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda Manohar Singh said that on August 28, the extortionists impersonating as militants entered in three houses at village Tendla and extorted Rs 8500 cash from one Ghulam Mustafa Wani, Rs 8000 cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 15000 from Mohd Issaq, son of Shukar Din and Rs 4000 from Ahmedullah Malik, son of Lala Malik. On the receipt of this information, a case was registered in Police Station Gandoh and a special team headed by SHO Gandoh Inspector Farooq Ahmed was constituted for investigation into the case. During the course of investigation, the team conducted raids at different places and today arrested two extortionists-Mohd Ayoub Wani, son of Mohd Sharief Wani, a resident of Malikpura Tilogra and Irshad Ahmed, son of Abdul Latief Zargar of Gandoh. From their possession, police recovered extorted cash Rs 35500, one toy AK, one toy hand grenade and two lady dresses. During preliminary questioning, both the accused confessed their crime and revealed that they used to impersonate as militants by using tops. Sometime they used to move in the guise of ladies. Two more accused-Majid Hussain Malik, son of Mohd Ayoub Malik of Tilogra and Shabir Ahmed, son of Abdul Gani Lone of Tendla have been absconding and a hunt was on to nab them.
