Srinagar: Four hand grenades were recovered from a locality adjacent to Hazratbal shrine on Thursday, a day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad paid obeisance there. The grenades were recovered from underneath a heap of bricks by a joint search party of police and security forces at Naseembagh area, a police spokesman said. Police sources said the grenades were probably kept there by suspected militants sometime back. The chief minister had visited the Hazratbal shrine housing holy relic of Prophet Mohammad and inspected development and expansion works there on Wednesday. It is suspected that militants might have planned to target the National Conference leadership but their attempt was frustrated by the security forces who have been deployed in strength in the area, the sources said.
