Top Militant Killed In Encounter

Srinagar: A self-styled Chief Operational Commander of al-Burq militant outfit was killed in an encounter with Jammu and Kashmir police in Baramulla district, a senior police officer said today. Acting on a tip off about the presence of some militants in a house of one Ghulam Mohammad Rather at Shiva-Sopore, 55 kms from here, police launched an operation yesterday, Deputy Inspector General of Police Baramulla B Srinivas said. As the police party encircled the specific house where militants were hiding, the ultras opened fire and in the retaliatory fire one militant was killed, the DIG said, adding troops of 22 Rashtria Rifles and 179 Central Reserve Police Force joined the operation later. The slain militant is identified as the Chief Operational Commander of al-Burq terrorist outfit, Abu Haider Ali, Srinivas said. Haider one of the most wanted in the north Kashmir, he added. He said three AK rifles, a wireless set, 14 magazines, 12 grenades, four UBGLSs, eight UBGL grenades, 1500 rounds of ammunition and three pouches have been recovered from the encounter site.
