Geelani Stays Away From Pak HC's Iftar
26 September 2007
Lahore: APHC leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Wednesday stayed away from the Iftar party hosted by the Pakistan High Commission, signalling widening of gap between him and Islamabad on Kashmir issue, reports PTI. However, moderate APHC leaders led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Abdul Gani Bhat along with a bus load of its general council members attended the function. 'We have decided not to attend the Iftar party as our policy and that of the Pakistani government on the Kashmir issue at the moment is not in consonance,' Geelani told reporters in Srinagar. Sources in Geelani camp said the invitation to the leader had been addressed as Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and not as Chairman of Hurriyat Conference, thus showing that Islamabad recognised Mirwaiz as its leader.
