HUJI Ultra Shot Dead, 4 Cops Hurt In Doda

Jammu: A militant was gunned down by his associates while four security personnel were injured in three separate incidents across Doda and Kishtwar districts. Doda police have, meanwhile, arrested three fresh recruits and four motivators and rescued eight youths from captivity of the militants. A local militant of Harkat-ul-Jehad Islami (HUJI) Abdul Rashid son of Qasim Gujjar R-o Kuchal Chatroo in Kishtwar district was gunned down by his associates in Kushal forests last night. His body was recovered this morning. Militants, however, took away his AK rifle. Official sources said the Rashid was killed by his colleagues as he was reportedly planning to surrender before Kishtwar police. Body of the militant has been handed over to his family. Security forces and police have launched a search operation to apprehend the militants involved in the killing. An Army jawan and a Special Police Officer (SPO) were injured in an encounter with the militants at Kither in Kishtwar district this morning. They have been identified as Sepoy Jasbir Singh and SPO Babbal Singh. The militants escaped after about two hour long exchange of gun battle with Army and police. Re-enforcement of security forces has been rushed to the spot to trace the militants. In another encounter at Lohar Thaba under the jurisdiction of police station Thathri, a police constable Jalal Din and SPO Rattan Chand were injured. Again, the ultras managed to give a slip to the security personnel. DIG Doda range Farooq Khan and SSP Doda Manohar Singh told reporters in Doda that police have arrested three fresh recruits of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit from Doda. They have been identified as Mohd Yousuf son of Mohd Shaban R-o Dalyog, Doda, brother of former militant, Asgar Ali, Fayaz Ahmed son of Abdul Gani Butt R-o Malna, Hanch and Shahzad Hussain son of Mohd Iqbal R-o Shoran Dhar, Doda. They had been lured into militancy by a local LeT activist, Bashir Ahmed Ganaie, brother of slain militant Mohd Ashraf Ganaie, mastermind of Kulhand massacre, who had already been eliminated by the security personnel. From Shahzad Hussain, police recovered one hand grenade, which had been given to him by LeT militant Mohd Iqbal for throwing on security forces. Mr Khan and Mr Singh said police have also arrested four motivators of militants from Doda. They have been identified as Bashir Ahmed Ganaie of Dalyog, Nasir Hussain Qazi of Bhallessa, presently putting up at Hadyal, Kishtwar, working as a daily wager in PHE Department, Ghulam Mohd Lone of Singpura, Chatroo and Jalal Din. They were motivating youths to join LeT and Hizbul Mujahideen outfits. Police have also rescued eight youths from captivity of the militants and restored them to their parents. They include Riyaz Ahmed, Manzoor Ahmed, Abdul Subhan, Manzoor Ahmed, Mehraj Din, Riyaz Ahmed, Sunil Kumar son of Munshi Ram and Sunil Kumar son of Yog Raj, all in the age group of 16 to 22 years and residents of Anchakri, Kalihand and Chilly, Bhallessa. Troops recovered two AK-56 rifles, 250 rounds and four magazines buried under dry river at Malpur in Akhnoor tehsil this morning. The recovery was made by Gorkha Rifles and Akhnoor Police team under the supervision of SDPO Atul Sharma. A Road Opening Party (ROP) of Army recovered four AK rounds, four rounds of 7.62mm and one fired case from Chanderkot on Jammu-Srinagar national highway today. Troops of Rashtriya Rifles and JKP recovered one Chinese pistol, two magazines, six pistol rounds, 85 Pika rounds and one binocular from Kalas Mohalla in Marhot area of Surankote tehsil in Poonch district.
