Two Militants, Jawan Killed

Srinagar: Two militants and an Army jawan were killed and two jawans sustained injuries in militancy related incidents in Kashmir valley today. Acting on specific information, troops of 24 Rashtriya Rifles along with police launched a joint operation at Phion-Paranwar in Kangan, 40 km from here, on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, a police spokesman said. As the troops surrounded a house, militants hiding there opened fire and in the ensuing gunfight, Abu Anees alias Fazal was killed. An Army jawan was also killed and two others injured in the shootout. An AK assault rifle, one magazine and 30 bullets were recovered from the slain militant. The spokesman said that the security forces shot dead another militant during an encounter at Liser Dangiwacha village in North Kashmir's Baramulla district and recovered an AK assault rifle, one wireless set, one UBGL, one UBGL thrower, three UBGL grenades, three magazines and 168 rounds from the encounter site. Meanwhile, a mob set ablaze a local politician's security vehicle after it knocked down a pedestrian in Anantnag district. The security vehicle attached with Zonal President of People's Democratic Party Abdul Salam Tantray hit and injured one Manzoor Ahmad Malik, a resident of Pahalgam, at Lazbal last night. Angry over the accident caused due to over-speeding of the vehicle, some set the vehicle on fire while the injured was being admitted Soura Medical Institute here, police said. The vehicle was abandoned by its driver and another person soon after the mishap, they said, adding a case has been registered. The PDP leader was at home when the incident took place, the added.
