Two militants held, arms seized

Srinagar: Security forces apprehended two militants and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition in the Kashmir valley. An official spokesman said that personnel of 62 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the State Police conducted a search operation at Woyen village in Pulwama district of South Kashmir early today. During the operation, an Al Badr militant, identified as Lateef Ahmad Qagay, was apprehended. Some arms and ammunition, including two grenades and one AK-47 magazine, were seized from his possession. The sources said the militant was initially working with the Hizbul Mujahideen, but later joined the Al-Badr outfit. In another operation, troops of 23 Punjab launched a search operation at Chhanpura in the Baramulla district and arrested the militant identified as Gulam Dar alias Mitha. A rocket propelled grenade launcher and two rocket propelled grenades were recovered from his possession, the spokesman said. He said that troops of 53 Rashtriya Rifles unearthed an underground hideout near an apple orchard at Hayatpura in Badgam district. A AK-56 rifle with one magazine, 93 rounds of ammunition, two under barrel grenade launcher grenades and two hand grenades were recovered from the hideout.
