PoK Refugees To Play A Decisive Role In JK Assembly Polls: SOS

13 November 2007

Jammu: An association of refugees of Pakistan occupied Kashmir today said they would play a decisive role in the forthcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. SOS international, the association of the refugees, is set to launch a door to door campaign for the ensuing polls. 'We will play a decisive role in the forth-coming assembly elections. We will go for door to door campaign to educate refugees over their bad treatment by the several political parties,' SOS International Chairman Rajiv Channi told reporters here today. There are over 12 lakh refugees in various assembly constituencies in several assembly segments in Jammu and other districts, whose vote bank can make or mar chances of the candidate to the state assembly, he said. 'There we have a crucial role to play. We will not allow the political parties to divide the PoK refugee vote bank this time and would not allow them to use it as vote bank on mere slogans,' he said. Refugees were struggling for their rights for last 60 years, particularly for permanent settlement in Jammu, he said, adding our plight remained unheard by the political parties who came to power in the state.
