HM Militant Arrested

Srinagar: State Police today said they arrested a Hizbul Mujahideen militant and seized some arms and ammunition from his possession. Superintendent of Police Handwara Haseeb Mughal said on specific information about presence of militants at Prangroo village in Handwara area of Kupwara district, a joint search operation was launched by the police, 30 Rashtriya Rifles and the CRPF. During the operation, a militant of the Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen Mohammad, identified as Latief Sheikh, was apprehended. One pistol, one revolver, two pistol magazines, seven pistol rounds, 165 AK 47 rounds, two wireless sets, one antenna and seven Chinese grenades were seized from his possession, he added. Meanwhile, one person was wounded when an explosive device went off in open fields at Khundru in Anantnag district of South Kashmir last evening, police said today. The incident came more than three months after a fire triggered a series of explosions at the Army's biggest ammunition depot at Khundru in South Kashmir on August 11, killing at least 20 people, wounding scores and rendering millions homeless. Police said Aijaz Ahmad Bhat was wounded when the explosive device went off in the open fields at Pahloo in Khundru area last evening. He has been hospitalised.
