HM ultra surrenders in Reasi

Srinagar: A Hizbul Mujahideen militant today surrendered before Army, BSF and police at Chajroo in Mahore area of Reasi district. Fareed Ahmed code Shaheen son of Bashir Ahmed R-o Pari Nullah, Seeldhar, Mahore, an active militant of Hizbul Mujahideen for last six years laid down arms before police, troops of 61 Rashtriya Rifles and 12th battalion of BSF at Chajroo this morning, SSP Reasi J L Sharma said. The militant handed over one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 90 rounds, one wireless set, one grenade and pencil cells at the time of surrender. Immediately after his surrender, Fareed Ahmed was whisked away for questioning, jointly by security forces and police to ascertain hide- outs of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. He was involved in a number of militant activities across Reasi and Ramban districts. Troops of Rashtriya Rifles recovered two IEDs, planted by the militants at Baransal road, about one km from Gulabgarh this afternoon. Both IEDs were destroyed on spot. Meanwhile, two villagers were injured when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the suspected militants exploded in Doda district today. An IED, planted by the suspected militants on a road in Udhianpur area of Doda district, exploded around 4.30 pm. In the explosion, two villagers - Bhim Singh and Shankar Singh - were injured. They have been hospitalised. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the militants responsible for the act.
