Militants Make Abortive Bid On Security Convoy In J&K

Srinagar: Militants on Monday made an abortive attempt to target a security convoy by setting off an improvised explosive device (IED) in Kupwara district. The explosive, planted on the roadside near Kohru bridge, was detonated by the ultras when an army convoy was passing through Handwara area of Kupwara, official sources said. The IED exploded after the last vehicle of the convoy had passed by, the sources said, adding no one was injured in the incident. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, they said. In a separate incident, police detected and defused a live grenade at Main Chowk Sopore in Baramulla district today. The grenade was found lying on the roadside by a police party and was later defused by the bomb disposal squad, a police spokesman said.
