Srinagar: A hawala racket was busted in Srinagar on Wednesday after Jammu and Kashmir police recovered Rs 14 lakh from a Tral resident during a routine checking of vehicles. Srinagar SSP Syed Mujtaba said the money, meant for terrorists, was being smuggled from Kupwara to Tral in Pulwama district of South Kashmir. 'A police party intercepted a Tata Sumo at Jehangir Chowk in Srinagar and recovered Rs 14 lakh Hawala money from the vehicle,' Shaheed Gunj SHO Aijaz Ahmed said, adding that the driver, a resident of Tral, was arrested. A case under the Unlawful Activities Act has been registered, the SSP said, adding that the money was to be distributed among terrorists.
