OIC Summit Ignores APHC Geelani

Washington DC: Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has excluded the representation of All Parties Hurriyet Conference faction led by Syed Ali Geelani the prominent and most popular political figure in Kashmir. Kashmir American Council has issued the list of participants in a statement released today without any inclusion of APHC (G) representation. As per the statement APHC (M) is being represented by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yousuf Nasim respectively from Indian Occupied Kashmir and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. According to the statement Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Executive Director, Kashmiri American Council-Kashmir Center left today to attend the 11th Islamic Summit of the OIC to be held on March 13- 14, 2008 at Dakar, Republic of Senegal. The OIC Foreign Minister meeting will be held on March 11-12. Dr. Fai is invited by Dr. Ekmelldin Ahsanoglu, the Secretary General of the OIC. Kashmiri delegation includes; Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman, All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC); Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir; Mr. Yusuf Naseem, Convener, APHC; Barrister Majid Tramboo, Executive Director, ICHR-Kashmir Center, Brussels and Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, Executive Director, Justice Foundation-Kashmir Center, London. Dr. Fai said that the Islamic Summit of 2003 that was held in Malaysia has agreed to commit the OIC and its member countries to press the United Nations to reaffirm the Security Council resolutions asserting the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination. Dr. Fai reiterated that the Islamic Summit of 2003 also called for a peaceful settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes and the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. This is the time for the Kashmiri delegation to impress upon the OIC leadership to persuade India and Pakistan to include the genuine leadership of the people of the State of the Jammu & Kashmir in all future negotiations to settle the Kashmir dispute in order to bring peace and stability to the whole region of South Asia, said Dr. Fai. Dr. Fai will also attend the current session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland between March 16-19, 2008. He will make an intervention on the human rights situations occurring in various parts of the world due to the on going occupation of the alien powers. Dr. Fai will be the “Guest of Honor” during the One-Day Peace Conference, entitled, “India-Pakistan Peace Process: The Role of the International Community,” to be organized by the Center for Peace & Conflict Resolution, University of Azad Jammu Kashmir, Muzzafarabad on March 22nd 2008. The Chief Guest is Hon. Raja Zulqarnain, who is the Chancellor of the University of Azad Jammu Kashmir & the President of AJK. Dr. Fai will also present a paper, “Confidence Building Measures Between India and Pakistan over the Issue of Kashmir.
