Former AJK Minister Shot Dead In Mirpur

Mirpur: Renowned legal expert of Azad Jammu Kashmir and ex-minister for Law Cha Cha Ali Muhammad Advocate was gunned down outside his residence here on Wednesday, police said. ‘Police have arrested two armed accused, belonging to Sindh, in a bid to flee from the scene’, SSP Mirpur Yaseen Qureshi told this scribe at the city police station here Wednesday. The district police chief said that the two arrested assailants were identified as Sajid Haroon Soomro, of Shikarpur and Ali Jan Soomro, of Gulistan Johar Karachi. ‘Police also seized two 30-bore pistols from the custody of the arrested accused’, the SSP added. He was shot dead when he was about to leave his house at the city’s posh residential sector F-2 at about 9:15am in his car for his routine office duty at the district courts. At the same time, the noise was raised about entering of some armed persons in a house close to the residence of the deceased Cha Cha, said the SSP quoting the preliminary inquiry. During this course, indiscriminate firing started by the armed accused and in the same firing Cha Cha Ali Muhammad Advocate shot dead on the spot. The people gathered at the scene overpowered two absconding gunmen and handed them over to police. He was immediately rushed to the district hospital where he was pronounced dead. Lawyers raised protest over the assassination of their senior colleague. Shopkeepers at various locations including central Shaheed Chowk registered protest over the incident. Hundreds of people also rushed to the hospital, where the body of the deceased was placed for post mortem. ‘Police have started investigations to ascertain the actual cause of the incident that whether it was the target killing or dacoity attempt’, SSP told this scribe.
