223 Security Men Punished For Human Rights Violations In J-K

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has taken action against 223 security personnel, found guilty of human-rights violations and custodial killings, in the last five years, official sources said here today. 'Ninety army men were among 223 security force personnel and policemen who have been awarded punishment in cases relating to violation of human rights and custodial killings in the last five years,' they said. It also includes 82 para-military personnel and 51 policemen, they said. To curb such incidents, the state government has initiated several measures to improve the functioning of state police and their better coordination with other security forces, the sources said. Simultaneously, follow-up action is being taken on the recommendations of the state human rights commission and reviewed by a committee headed by the chief minister.
