PM Calls Mufti

6 July 2008

Srinagar: In a last ditch effort to save the Congress-led coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, the prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, this evening called the Peoples Democratic Party patron and former chief minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, presently in the United States for treatment, urging his support to Ghulam Nabi Azad “in the larger interests” of both the parties. Insiders told Greater Kashmir, the Mufti told the prime minister it was too late for him to salvage the government. Justifying his party’s stand, he recalled the entire sequence of events that had led to the withdrawal of support of his party to the coalition government.
