Authorities had clamped curfew in Jammu and adjoining areas in view of high tension following the suicide of an activist of Sangharsh Samiti, the organisation spearheading the agitation against revocation of land transfer to the Amarnath shrine board. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC were imposed in Kathua, Samba and Udhampur towns, a senior police officer said. Violent protests broke out after the Samiti activist Kuldeep Kumar while participating in a chain hunger strike over the issue swallowed poison and died yesterday.
