New Delhi: In yet another violation of the 2003 ceasefire agreement, Pakistani Army troops lobbed 60 mm mortars and directed small arms fire at Indian posts in the Poonch sector on Monday afternoon. While no casualties were reported on the Indian side, the Army retaliated and targeted the Pakistani post with small arms fire. A senior Army officer said that Pakistani troops attacked the Indian post at 12.30 in the afternoon. Officers said there was no indication that the firing was carried out to divert attention from infiltrators attempting to cross the fence in the area. Monday’s incident is the 22nd time that Pakistan has violated the ceasefire agreement this year. The incidents come after a relatively quiete four years where the ceasefire agreement was upheld by both sides. In the last incident that took place a week ago in the Nowgam Sector, a BSF posts was taregeted by small arms fire. On July 28, a group of Pakistani soldiers crossed the LoC in the same sector and shot dead an Indian Jawan after objecting to an observation post on the border. Four Pakistani soldiers were also killed in the incident.
