Curfew Relaxed In Several Districts Of Valley, Parts Of Srinagar

Srinagar: Curfew was relaxed for two hours in over a dozen police station areas in Srinagar and several districts of Kashmir valley this evening, a police spokesman said. The restrictions were also relaxed in Bandipora and Ganderbal districts from 4 pm to 6 pm excluding Behama Chowk, he said adding that curfew was also relaxed in a phased manner in Shopian, Kulgam and Kupwara districts. The 18 police station areas in Srinagar where curfew was eased from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm included Kothibagh, Maisuma, Ram Munshibagh, Nishat, Harwan, Zakoora, Pantha Chowk, Nowgam, Saddar, Shergari, Rajbagh, Soura, Karan Nagar, Parimpora, Nigeen, Lal Bazar and Zadibal, he said. However, no relaxation was given in Curfew in the Valley till 4 pm on Friday in anticipation of trouble, he said. 'The curfew restrictions remained clamped without relaxation in view of the call by Hurriyat Coordination Committee asking people to come out on streets after Friday prayers and hold protest demonstrations at all district and tehsil headquarters', the spokesman said. Curfew was imposed in all the 10 districts of the Kashmir valley in the wee hours of Sunday to stall a march by separatists to the historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
