One Militant Killed, IED Detected In J&K

Srinagar: An unidentified militant was killed in a gunfight, while security forces averted a major tragedy with detection of a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Jammu and Kashmir today, official sources said. The militant was killed during a joint search operation by police and security forces at Khodi village of Sogam in North Kashmir Kupwara district, the sources said. The sources said police assisted by Rashtriya rifles launched the search operation in the village following specific information about presence of militants. The hiding militants opened fire on seeing the search party and in the ensuing gunfight, an unidentified militant was killed, the sources said adding the identity and group affiliation of the deceased was being ascertained. An AK rifle, four magazines, 40 rounds and a hand grenade were recovered from the possession of the deceased, the sources said. In another incident, security forces detected a powerful IED on Srinagar-Gulmarg road today, the sources said. The IED was planted by militants between Tangmarg and Gulmarg and was noticed by the road opening party of security forces, the sources said.
