It Is Vote Against Separatism: Sonia

21 December 2008

R S Pura: Saluting people in Jammu and Kashmir for voting enthusiastically despite a poll boycott call, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said it was a vote against separatism and asked its exponents to bow to the verdict. 'It was a vote against separatism. I congratulate people of Jammu and Kashmir. Separatists should now respect and bow before the verdict of the people', she told a public rally close to the Indo-Pak border in R S Pura sector today. It is an assertion of their full faith in democracy and by taking part in the electoral exercise they have further increased their respectability across the country and the world, she said. Lauding the people for turning out in large numbers to vote during the first six phases of elections in the state, she appealed to them to create a record by casting their votes in the largest number in the final phase. Speaking on the occasion, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Chief and Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz said the people have given a befitting reply to separatists by casting their votes. He claimed the Congress will win majority of the seats in Jammu and Kashmir and form the next government on its own.
