1 January 2009

Srinagar: Youth in Srinagar organised a musical concert wishing peace and harmony in 2009. A musical band of Kashmiri youths named 'Valley Youth Xpressions' enthralled hordes of security personnel along with residents last evening by performing dances on traditional as well as latest Bollywood songs. The main objective of the concert was to spread the message of peace and harmony in the valley. 'In 2008, we have faced lot of problems. I would say that since I was born, I have heard sound of bullets and smelled the burning houses. We wish that 2009 brings the message of peace and harmony and brings breeze of happiness to Kashmir,' said Nasir Ali Khan, one of the organisers of the concert. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who attended the concerts said that such programmes are a good source of entertainment and motivation for the security personnel who are mostly on duty. 'Such programmes become a source of entertainment for security forces who are on duty here. So overall it was good entertainment,' said Madan Kumar, a CRPF member. Residents also feel that there have been changes in the valley in last few years and believe that its for the betterment of Kashmir. 'We have seen that new things are being done in Srinagar in last five to six years. Lot of changes have taken place. This is for the betterment of Kashmir,' said Masarat Jan, a resident.
