Srinagar: Welcoming the statement of British Foreign Secretary David Miliband on Kashmir issue, Moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said the United States, United Kingdom and other countries will have to go beyond issuing statements for resolving Kashmir issue for permanent peace in the South Asian region. 'We welcome the statement of the British Foreign Secretary. However, unless the US, the UK and rest of the international community does not make efforts for resolution of Kashmir issue as per the wishes and aspirations of the people of the State, the dream of permanent peace in South Asian region cannot be realized,' Mirwaiz said addressing a Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in downtown city. Mirwaiz said the international community will have to move beyond issuing just statements about resolution of Kashmir issue. The Hurriyat chairman said India and Pakistan should also stop the war banter and start a meaningful dialogue process for resolution of all outstanding issues between them, including the Kashmir issue. 'The entire world agrees with the opinion of the British Foreign Secretary that the threats to peace looming large over the South Asian region will recede automatically with the resolution of Kashmir issue,' he added. On the issue of Israeli attacks on Gaza in Palestine, Mirwaiz said global peace will be distant dream unless the international community takes concrete steps to resolve Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine based on principles of justice and truth. He condemned the Israeli attacks on civilians in Gaza saying the silence of the international community over the killing of the civilians was unfortunate and regrettable.
