PDP For Extension Of Rail Link, Four-lane Highway To Kupwara

16 February 2009

Srinagar: The opposition Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) today demanded that the Qazigund-Baramulla railway line and the Srinagar-Baramulla four-lane highway be extended till Kupwara to improve the communication links to this border district in north Kashmir. 'As trains are the best means of surface transport, the rail line should be extended up to Kupwara,'senior PDP leader and MLA from Lolab Abdul Haq Khan told media, adding that a four lane highway link too is needed to boost development of this economically backward district. Khan together with PDP MLA from Pahalgam told reporters that a degree college should be set up in each of their two constituencies as both areas are educationally backward and deserve special attention.
