JK Submits Rs 386 Crores Wullar Lake Action Plan To Centre

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir government has submitted Rs 386 crore comprehensive management action plan for protection and conservation of the world famous Wullar lake in Srinagar. 'A comprehensive management action plan for Wullar lake was formulated by the consultant, Wetlands International South Asia, at a cost of Rs 386.39 crore for a period of five years,' Tourism minister Nawang Rigzin Jora said replying to a question by PDP MLA Nizam-ud-din Bhat during question hour in the Assembly. He further said the state submitted a project to Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, on August 16 last year seeking financial assistance. The ministry released an amount of Rs 33.78 lakhs to the state forest department for the financial year 2008-09 and has sought some clarification on the action plan while suggesting that it be revised. The state government, however, is pursuing with the ministry for approval of the original action plan under the Prime Minister's reconstruction plan.
