PDP To Play Role Of Constructive, Fearless Opposition In J&K
1 March 2009
: : Vowing to play the role of a constructive and fearless Opposition, the PDP on Sunday said it would continue to reflect the urges and aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of Jammu and Kashmir as mandated by the people of the state. The pledge was taken through a resolution adopted at a meeting of the party's central executive committee headed by former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. As the main Opposition party, the PDP will create new standards of honest, constructive and fearless opposition, the way it set new trends while in government and will continue to reflect urges and aspirations of the people of the state, the resolution said. Saluting the people of Jammu and Kashmir for expressing unreserved confidence in democratic means to secure their rights, the resolution said their enthusiastic participation in the recent elections not only empowers them to make and break governments but also lifts the status and prestige of the state assembly as an insitution. The party also demanded immediate implementation of the recommendations of the working groups constituted by the Prime Minister, restoration of the state's rights over its water resources and immediate scrapping of the Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) and Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) considering the improved security scenario in the state.
