European Union delegation calls on Governor

Jammu: A delegation of the European Union called on Governor, N. N. Vohra, here last evening. The delegation, headed by Hynek Kmonicek, Ambassador of Czech Republic, comprised Daniele Smadja, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Commission; Ambassador of Sweden, Lars-Olof Lindgren, Ambassador of Spain, Ion de la Riva, Deputy Head of the Mission of the Czech Republic, Jan Kreuter and Bruce Bourdon, Political Counsellor, Embassy of France. The Governor, while interacting with the visiting delegation, observed that the massive participation of people in the recently held elections for the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, braving harsh weather conditions and other odds, is an indicator of their deep trust in democracy and their yearning for peace and progress. The Governor said that the development initiative launched by the State Government, with liberal financial assistance from the Central Government, to provide basic amenities to the people with particular focus on power, water supply, healthcare, road connectivity and education, across the State, is bound to yield a positive outcome. The Governor also referred to the recent inauguration of international flights from Srinagar International Airport and inauguration of Railway from Mazhom to Baramulla. He mentioned that all possible measures are being taken by the Government to speed up the pace of execution of development works in the State to complete the projects in a time-bound manner to benefit the people at the earliest. The present position regarding the Cross-LoC movement of people and goods also came up for discussion.
