Op Gurez On, Militant Killed In Kupwara

Srinagar: Even as troops are engaged in a massive search operation in Gurez sector in north Kashmir, an unidentified militant was killed in a joint operation by the Army and the J-K Police in Kupwara district. A police spokesperson said the militant was killed in an encounter at Pate Dari top in Warnoo, under the jurisdiction of Lalpora police station, Kupwara. Sources said the encounter took place when a joint party of the Army and the police noticed a movement of militants in the forest area on Tuesday night. “As the troops challenged them, the militants opened fire. In the ensuing encounter one unidentified militant was killed,” sources said. The body of the militant has been handed over to the police. The sources said that the operation was still on and the troops have sealed all exit routes that connect Lolab forests in Kupwara with Bandipore, where the Army is already searching for a group of infiltrators who had sneaked in through the LoC last Thursday. The Army said that the operation to flush out militants in Gurez was still on. In a separate incident, a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was arrested in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. A police spokesperson in Srinagar said the LeT militant identified as Bilal Ahmad Koley, son of Ahmad Koley, a resident of Kokernag, was arrested in a joint operation by the Anantnag Police , 36 RR, 187 RR and 162 Bn CRPF. The spokesperson said that, on specific information, a joint team of Army, Police and CRPF had raided the house of Mohripora resident Majid Margay, and had arrested LeT militant Bilal. “One pistol, one pistol magazine and two hand grenades were recovered from his possession,” he said. Police has registered a case in this regard.
