Two Army Personnel Killed In J&K Gunbattle

Srinagar: Two army personnel were killed in a fierce gunbattle between militants and security forces in Lolab area of Kupwara district, official sources said on Monday. Naik Vipin Thakur and para trooper Kamaljeet Singh were killed in the ongoing encounter at Maidanpora forest of North Kashmir Kupwara district. Both the soldiers were posted with Nine para of the Army and died in the encounter on Sunday night, the sources said. Three soldiers were also injured on Sunday when the encounter broke out between hiding militants and a joint search party of police and troops of 18 Rashtriya Rifles, nine para and One para, the sources said. The casualties suffered by the militants in the encounter were not known immediately as a fierce gunbattle was going on when last reports were received, the sources said. Security forces have launched a massive search operation in the higher reaches of Kupwara since March 20 following infiltration of a large group of militants from across the border.
