Srinagar: The chief minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday accused the People’s Democratic Party of floating the self-rule idea at the behest of Bharatiya Janata Party to defeat the autonomy resolution passed by the legislative assembly by a three-fourth majority. Denouncing what he called the PDP’s dual trait of using underhand means to acquire and enjoy power while simultaneously shedding crocodile tears for resolution of Jammu and Kashmir-centric issues, Omar said after National Conference acquainted political leaders of the country about importance and feasibility of the autonomy proposal, considerable pressure was mounted on the then BJP-led government which was compelled to constitute a committee to discuss it. Addressing public rallies in Dooru and Kokernag, Omar said the BJP asked Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and his daughter to float imaginary self-rule idea so that autonomy proposal passed by the state assembly was put on the back burner. “As faithful friends of L K Advani and BJP, Mufti and Mehbooba acted accordingly and befooled the state people by the imaginary self rule idea, the contours of which are not even known to the father-daughter duo,” he added. Omar said his party would push for autonomy resolution at all forums and play a pragmatic and positive role to help efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and political tranquility in the state. He said the NC presented its point of view on permanent settlement of all J&K-centric issues at the Working Groups constituted by the prime minister. The NC wrote to Justice Sageer Ahmed heading the Working Group on state-centre relations, to resume the deliberations of the Group so that National Conference will carry forward its autonomy proposal. The chief minister told the people that Lok Sabha elections were significant to ensure return of liberal, secular, able and progressive democrat, Dr. Manmohan Singh. “The success of coalition candidate will mean return of Dr. Manmohan Singh and God forbid the defeat will strengthen the BJP at the centre, and the BJP and the PDP are two faces of the same coin.”
