Antony Visits Border Posts In Rajouri, Poonch

Rajouri: The defence minister, AK Antony, Monday visited the forward areas along the line of control in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch falling under the White Knight corps. He was accompanied by the chief of the army staff, Gen Deepak Kapoor, the defence secretary, Vijay Singh, the GoC-in-C, Northern Command, Lt Gen P C Bhardwaj, and the GoC, White Knight Corps. Antony was briefed on the prevailing security situation along the LoC. He addressed the troops at Raina Auditorium here lauding the army’s role in curbing infiltration and reducing the levels of insurgency. Antony said the army’s vigilance and proactive stance had ensured incident-free elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The minister spoke of various schemes taken up under Operation Sadbhavna for the socio-economic development of the people living in the insurgency- affected remote areas of the region. Antony urged the troops to remain vigilant by maintaining a high degree of operational preparedness to meet any eventuality. Later, the defence minister attended a Sainik Bhoj with the troops, where he interacted with all ranks and lauded the yeoman services rendered by the armed forces in restoring peace.
