Kashmir Is Safe, Dr Abdullah To Tourists

Srinagar: Declaring Kashmir total a safe heave for everyone, former chief minister and president of the ruling National Conference, Farooq Abdullah invited tourists to visit here in large numbers. He rejected reports spread by some vested interests about the situation here and said Kashmir was safe for everyone. Speaking at an election rally at the world famous Dal Lake, Dr Abdullah said tourist arrival was low because of the unfounded rumors spread by some vested interests about the situation here. However, he said those who had visited here during the past two months left with satisfaction. I invite you (tourists) here to enjoy the weather which is pleasant and the beauty of the valley, which is at its best these days, he said. Dr Abdullah said there was an urgent need to dispel the fear in the minds of the tourists because of these rumors. We have pleasant weather here when people in other parts of the country are feeling heat because of very high temperature, he said, adding the people of Kashmir were known for their hospitality. The people and the authorities treat every tourist as their guest, he said, adding, We are ready to receive them (tourists).' Dr Abdullah said the main reason for starting the election campaign from the Dal Lake was to give a message to tourists in the country and abroad that Kashmir was as safe as any part of the world.
