Srinagar: The People’s Democratic Party on Friday accused the NC-Cong coalition of pushing the state back into gloomy era of cynicism, despair, and alienation and brining disappointment due to lack of a political agenda and principle for governance, a PDP spokesman said on Friday. He said the party patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed told PDP workers at Hazratbal and Mehjoor Nagar today that drop in voter turnout in the parliamentary elections was due to the government’s failure on all counts. “Sayeed said the lack of concrete political and economic agenda for governance and waning interest in the peace process seem to be the major contributory factors towards the growing public cynicism. He said when it came to power in 2002, the PDP had created a new space within the democratic system for the resolution of the Kashmir problem and the people’s participation in elections had given it approval, sanctity and credibility. Unfortunately, there seem to be no such initiatives in sight today,” the statement said.
