Jammu: A Hizbul Mujahideen militant, a self styled lover of a young girl, last night gunned down the girl's husband who had married only four days back besides the newly wed female's mother and father-in-law at village Bandara in Gulabgarh area of Reasi district. The civilians, who were gunned down by four Hizbul Mujahideen militants including the self-styled lover, Ishfaq Ahmed, a known Hizbul Mujahideen militant having his area of operation in Mahore belt, have been identified as Aijaz Ahmed, who had married the girl (being sent feelers of marriage by the militant) only four days back, Ahmed Din (father of Aijaz) and Taja Begum, mother of the girl. Official sources said four Hizbul Mujahideen militants led by Ishfaq Ahmed appeared at the house of Aijaz Ahmed at 10.30 pm last night and dragged him and his father, Ahmed Din out of the house. They took the duo to nearby house of Aijaz Ahmed's in-laws and brought out his mother-in-law, Taja Begum. They gunned down all three civilians and escaped. The militants, however, didn't harm the girl (wife of Aijaz Ahmed), who was present in the house of Aijaz at the time of killing. All four killers escaped from the village after the killings. According to sources, Hizbul Mujahideen militant Ishfaq Ahmed had openly been asking Taja Begum, a widow, to marry her daughter with him. Both Taja Begum and her daughter had rejected the militant's proposal. Facing humiliation at the hands of Taja Begum and her daughter, Ishfaq had asked all local people in the area not to marry the girl otherwise they would have to face the consequences. However, Taja Begum dared to take on the militants and married her daughter with her neighbour Aijaz Ahmed son of Ahmed Din only four days back. Last night, Ishfaq Ahmed joined by his three associates-Nazir Ahmed, Khalid Hussain and Janbaaz struck at village Bandara and gunned down the three civilians. The killings have sparked off tension in the area with local people protecting the dastardly act of the militants in killing a widow and making another newly wed a widow by killing her young husband. Tension prevailed in the area even during burial of the civilians with a number of local people shouting slogans against the killers and demanding stern action against them. DIG Udhampur-Reasi range Gulzar Singh Slathia, SSP Reasi Anand Jain and Additional SP Reasi Razzaq Khan rushed to the spot early this morning soon after getting a report of the massacre of innocent civilians. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Pawan Kotwal and IGP Jammu K Rajendera also flew-in to the site of killings from here this afternoon and met the local people. They handed over ex gratia cheques to kin of victims and assured adequate security in the area. Enforcement of Army and police have been rushed to the spot and a search operation has been launched to eliminate or apprehend the militants involved in the killings of three civilians. Meanwhile, troops of Rashtriya Rifles today destroyed a hide-out of the militants at Lidar Nullah in Doda district and recovered three grenades, 50 AK rounds, two radio sets, four electronic detonators and two SIM cards besides ration items. Army and police busted another hide-out of the militants in Darhal area of Rajouri district and recovered three Chinese grenades, two UBGL grenades, 464 AK rounds, 56 Pika rounds, one AK magazine, two radio sets, three spare antennas, two binoculars and one code sheet.
