Over 2,000 Election Rallies Held Across J-K

Srinagar: As campaigning for the Parliamentary elections comes to an end in Jammu and Kashmir today, the State witnessed hectic election campaigning with 2,022 public meetings held across the State since poll schedule was announced on March 2. Out of these, 1,070 have been organized in Kashmir division and 952 in Jammu division. As many as 382 public meetings were organized in Baramulla and 15 in Ladakh Parliamentary constituencies alone by various political parties and contesting candidates. In Kashmir division, out of 1,070 election rallies held by various political parties and candidates, 698 have been large and medium rallies. Campaigning for Baramulla and Ladakh Lok Sabha seats, which came to an end today evening, was high profile with many national and state leaders campaigning across the constituencies with Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah, Union Minister for Water Resources Prof. Saifuddin Soz and former Chief Ministers, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, and MoS in the Prime Ministerís Office Mr. Prithviraj Chavan addressing various public meetings. In Baramulla Parliamentary constituency, out of the 382 election rallies held across 15 Assembly segments, NC organized 148, PDP 140, Congress 43, Peopleís Conference (S) 23, ANC 4 and independents 7. As many as 193 public meetings were large and medium. As far as district-wise break up of 382 rallies held in Baramulla Parliamentary constituency is concerned, 150 rallies were held in Baramulla, 152 in Kupwara and 80 in Bandipora district. Likewise, in Ladakh Parliamentary constituency, out of the 15 election rallies held across four segments Assembly segments, Congress and LUTF organized 6 each and NC, PDP, and independents 1 each. As far as Kashmir Division is concerned, of the total 1,070 election rallies held, NC organized 452, PDP 410, Congress 90, PC (S) and ANC 27 each, LUTF, BJP and SWP 6 each, PDF and CPI (M) 5 each, JK Democratic Party (N) and Peopleís National Front 4 each, NCP 3, Lok Janshakti, BSP and IJP 2 each, J&K Awami Party and NPP 1 each and independents 14. On the last day of campaigning in Baramulla Parliamentary constituency, as many as 16 rallies and road-shows were organized by various political parties and contesting candidates while as two rallies were held in Ladakh Parliamentary constituency today.
