We’ll Expose Guilty Uniformed Men : HCBA

Srinagar: In continuation of the week-long programme called by pro-freedom leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, hundreds of lawyers on Saturday staged demonstrations in this capital city to protest dual rape and murder of Shopian women last month. Hundreds of lawyers affiliated with high court bar association on Saturday morning assembled at sadder court complex and took out a procession to protest the rape and murder of Shopian women last month. Carrying placards and banners that read “Right to self determination only solution to Kashmir issue,” “Stop genocide in Kashmir and release all political prisoners,” “Shopian incident a war crime- crime against humanity,” and chanting “We want freedom,” “Go India Go,” and anti-India slogans, the protesting lawyers marched through the streets of the commercial hub Lal Chowk. The protesting lawyers also raised slogans against divisional commissioner, Kashmir and former SP, Shopian Javed Iqbal. “Lakhs of Kashmiris have been killed and more than ten thousand have gone missing in the custody of forces. We will lay down our lives but will not compromise on the chastity of our daughters and sisters,” former Bar president, Nazir Ahmad Ronga said, while addressing the protesting lawyers at Regal chowk. “The initial findings including the eyewitness account have suggested that uniformed forces are responsible for this barbaric act. We’ll not remain silent till the perpetrators are unmasked and hanged,” he added. Ronga said that Shopian incident was an eye-opener for the people of Kashmir and they should unite to get justice for Nilofer and Asiya. He said what happened with the women in Shopian can happen with any Kashmiri woman. Urging President of India Pratibha Singh Patil to intervene and end the ‘tyranny’ of forces, Ronga said that being a woman, the president should understand that pain and suffering of the women who are being raped and murdered by the forces across the valley. “Ten Lakh armed terrorists have unleashed terror in the valley. The acts like Shopian are part of the state sponsored terrorism,” Ronga said, adding “President Pratibha Patil as a woman should see what the forces were doing in Kashmir,” Former Bar president said that the bar has already come up with the preliminary report of the dual rape and murder case before the public. He said the final report will also be made public soon so that the people know who the culprits are. Meanwhile, reports of protests have also been received from South, Central and North Kashmir where hundreds of lawyers staged demonstrations to protest the alleged rape and murder of Asiya Jan and Nilofer Jan of Shopian last month.
