Srinagar: The directions of Jammu and Kashmir High Court on the Shopian rape and murder issue were termed as 'right step in right direction' by the victims' family and the group spearheading the agitation in the Valley as well. 'The court directions regarding interrogation of suspended police officers is a right step in right direction,' Zahoor Ahmad Ahanghar, brother of Asiya (17) and brother-in- law of Nelofar (22), told PTI on phone. The court, while hearing a PIL filed by Kashmir High Court Bar Association for a thorough probe into the rape and murder of Neelofar and Asiya on May 29 in Shopian, yesterday directed for exhumation of the bodies of the two women to carry out a proper and thorough post-mortem. The state government suspended four police officers including the then Shopian SP Javid Iqbal and an official of forensic science laboratory a day after the submission of interim report by the one-man judicial commission inquiring into the case for destroying evidence. Later, two doctors were also placed under suspension for their alleged failure to perform post-mortem properly. The bench on Saturday also issued directions for interrogation of the suspended police officers and two witnesses and if necessary go for their narco-analysis and barred police and paramilitary forces personnel stationed in Shopian from leaving the place without the permission of special investigating team (SIT), probing the case.
