Srinagar: A policeman was killed and four of his fellow officers wounded Tuesday in a grenade attack by suspected militants in Indian Kashmir, police said. The attack took place in Shopian town, 50 kilometres (30 miles), south of the state summer capital Srinagar, a police spokesman said. 'Militants hurled a grenade at a counter-insurgency police camp resulting in the death and the injuries,' he said. Shopian has been hit by regular protests since the bodies of two women were found at the end of May. Police have treated the case as rape and murder but residents have blamed Indian security forces. Police have arrested four of their colleagues for destroying evidence. Kashmir is in the grip of a nearly 20-year insurgency that has left more than 47,000 people dead by official count.
