SC postpones hearing against appointment of AJK chief justice

ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned for an indefinite period the hearing of a petition against the appointment of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court Chief Justice Riaz Akhtar Chaudhry, pleading it be declared illegal and unconstitutional. The bench, consisting of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja adjourned the proceedings, as the counsel for the petitioner did not turn up and the AJK Council could not present the relevant records sought by the SC. At the last hearing, the court had directed Attorney General Latif Khosa to assist the court on the matter in the next hearing, directing the AJK Council to produce relevant records. staff report
