Muzaffarabad: Thousands of people would protest for their demands about the reconstruction of the areas destroyed in the tragic earthquake of 2005. The anniversary of devastated incident is being commemorated on October 8th (on Thursday). The humanitarian organizations Press For Peace (PFP) and Action Aid have arranged the demonstrations and Walks in Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Rawalakot cities of Azad Jammu and Kashmir which were badly affected during the earthquake. “The motive of these walks and demonstrations is to protest against the delaying in the reconstruction work, alleged embezzlement in funds and none completion of school buildings”, Coordinator Safeer Raza briefed local media here on Tuesday after the meeting of civil society organizations which discussed and viewed the preparations of the Azm-e- Tameer-e- Nau (Pledge for Reconstruction) Walk. He said that the unique feature of such demonstrations would be the participation of hundreds of children and young students whom school buildings, demolished in the earthquake, have not been constructed even after four years of the catastrophic earthquake which struck Pakistan controlled Kashmir and NWFP areas on October 8, 2005. More than 72 thousands people were killed, 30 thousands wounded and two million people affected during this calamity. Sister organizations Press For Peace (PFP) and Action Aid are running an awareness campaign to highlight the suffering of the people living in the earthquake areas. PFP Event Coordinator Safeer Raza informed the media that thousands of people would participate in the Walks in Muzaffarabad and Bagh on Wednesday (today) while the similar event would be held in Rawalakot tomorrow (Thursday). He said that traders, lawyers, civil society organizations, including Poonch Development Forum and other segments of society would join the demonstrations to raise their voice against the inefficiency of government which ‘have failed to fulfil its commitments regarding reconstruction of the demolished cities of AJ&K’. He said the ill fated innocent children who are waiting for the construction of their school buildings would lead the precessions.
