Hizb Commander Killed In Reasi

Srinagar: Three Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants, including a district commander of the group, were killed in an overnight encounter with the troops in the Mahore area of the Reasi district in Jammu on Wednesday, the police said. The encounter erupted in the Daghan Top forests of Mahore when the special operations group (SOG) of the police and the troops of the 61 Rashtriya Rifles were on a search operation in the area on Tuesday night following reports of militant presence. Reports said that the militants hiding in the forests opened heavy fire on the search parties, triggering off a fierce battle that continued intermittently till the early hours of Wednesday morning, leaving three militant dead. The police identified the slain militants as Mushtaq Ahmad, alias Maqsood, of Gool, and his two associates, Irshad Ahmad of Chuchua Gool and Mohammad Rafiq of Gulabgarh. According to the police, Mushtaq was a district commander of the Hizb and had been active in the area for the past ten years. Two AK-47 rifles with 125 rounds, 1 pistol and 18 rounds, 4 grenades, 3 kilograms of RDX, one wireless set and a mobile phone with four batteries were recovered from the encounter site, the police said.
