Srinagar: The chairman of the Hurriyat (M), Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, today set off with a delegation for a tour of the Doda and Kishtwar districts in a bid to reach out to the Muslim-dominated areas of the Jammu region. The trip follows the controversy in the pro-freedom alliance after comments by its former chairman, Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat, that the conglomerate could work with mainstream parties like the NC and the PDP to sort out the Kashmir issue. The Mirwaiz had described the remarks as Prof. Ghani’s personal views, but voices of dissent had been raised in the executive as well as the general councils. In the present tour, the Mirwaiz aims to apprise the people in the region about the Hurriyat’s efforts in trying to resolve the Kashmir issue, and convey the details of his recent visit to the US.
