Top LeT Commander Among Two Terrorist Killed In Reasi

Jammu: Security forces claimed to have eliminated a self styled district commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit and his accomplice in an encounter in mountainous Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources here today said. Acting on a tip-off that some militants were hiding in Kalwa forest just five kms away from Mahore in Reasi, the security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation, Defence spokesman Lt Col Biplab Nath said. A joint operation was launched today by police, 61 Rashtriya Rifles and the troops of Uniform Force on specific information in target area and firefight started at 1500 hrs soon after the contact was made with terrorist at around 1445 hrs. In the ensuing encounter two terrorist of Laishker-e-Toiba (LeT) including a self-styled district commander of Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT), were killed, Col Biplab told. The slain terrorist were later identified as Rafiq alias Noman the District Commander of Lashkar and Jabrar, he said further adding that killing of district commander of LeT is a major blow to the terror outfit active in the area as within seven days security forces have killed three cadres of a Laishkar-e-Toiba while one LeT militant also surrendered before security forces on the other day, sources said. He mentioned that the slain terrorist Rafiq, was acting as a top commander who took over the organization after the elimination of Abu Abdullah alias Romeo 8. One AK-47, two magazines, three hand grenades, one satellite phone and a radio set were recovered from the site of the encounter, he said.
