Mehdi First CM Of Gilgit-Baltistan

Islamabad: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Wednesday nominated Syed Mehdi Shah for the slot of first Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. In a meeting held in Islamabad with Governor Gilgit-Baltistan, who is also in-charge Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Qamar Zaman Kaira nominated Syed Mehdi Shah for the slot of CM with the consent of the elected members. Mehdi is a senior PPP leader and President of Gilgit-Baltistan PPP chapter. People's Party bagged 12 of 23 seats in Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly elections held on November 12 and one independent candidate also joined the PPP after the election taking the total strengthen to 13. Results of two constituencies have been withheld whereas polling in one constituency was postponed due to death of MQM candidate. Sources said consultations are under way in Zardari House to finalise the names of PPP candidates for the slots of Speaker, Deputy Speakers, Cabinet members as well as six women and three technocrat seats. People's Party enjoys absolute majority to form its own government in Gilgit-Baltistan.
