Srinagar: A key witness in the Shopian rape and murder case has turned hostile. Ghulam Mohiuddin, whose statement had implicated the security forces for the rape and murder of two women in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian region, has made a retraction. Mohiuddin now claims he was intimidated by four lawyers of the Shopian Bar Association into giving a false statement. 'I was pressurised by the bar association to lie. I saw nothing on the day of the incident. My statement to the CBI is true,' Mohiuddin said. Mohiuddin was the only witness in the case. He had said that he heard the cries of the victims, Neelofar and her sister-in-law Asiya, from a police vehicle near the spot where their bodies were found. The case had triggered huge outrage in the Kashmir Valley. The CBI has taken the four lawyers named by Mohiuddin into custody for questioning. However, the district bar association has denied Mohiuddin's charges.
