Tourist Inflow Picks Up In Kashmir11 March 2010
Srinagar: Even before the opening of Tulip Garden, which marks the beginning of the tourist season in Kashmir, the inflow of tourists has started to pick up. The tour organizers are on toes selling special packages for the Asia’s largest Tulip Garden to attract more tourists for the coming month. The Tulip Garden is likely to be thrown open on April 3 and will remain open for three weeks till the end of April. Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK), an apex body of tour operators, has been selling ‘Kashmir Tulip Package’ for April month, which according to them has evoked good responses from tourists across India. “Tulip Garden has given a fillip to the tourist season and has provided a chance to sell the first attractive package of this season,” said President TAAK Rauf Ahmad Tramboo. Tramboo said they are getting enquires from tourists regarding Kashmir Tulip Package which also offers tourist a day long tour to Gulmarg. “The confirmation is a bit slow but it would pick up as the season nears,” said Tramboo. However, TAAK president said the present tourist arrival is ‘satisfactory’. “The inflow of tourist has picked up for the last couple of days. It is likely to pick up more as Tulip Garden would be thrown open,” said Tramboo. Tramboo said the present tourist arrival is an indication that the peak tourist season in June would witness huge rush. “The present tourist influx augers well for the mid tourist season,” said Tramboo. Notably, the Tourism Department declared 2010 year as Visit Kashmir year and the Govt. has been making all out campaign with slogan Waliv Kashmir-Visit Kashmir to attract more tourists this year. The tour operators say that the percentage of tourists that have visited Kashmir this year is better than the corresponding period of the last year. “This is a good sign for the tourist season this year. It has encouraged us and we are optimistic of good tourist season ahead,” said Chairman JK Tourism Alliance, GM Dugg. Dugg said that they are gearing for the inauguration of Tulip Garden which will give fillip to this year’s tourist arrival. “Tourists have arrived here even before the Tulip Garden has been thrown open. The Tulip Garden is an added attraction that will help to attract more tourists,” said JKTA chairman.
