Rajouri: The toll in the Rajouri gunfights mounted to 26 with the killing of four more militants and a trooper in a fresh encounter on Friday, police said. The Additional Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Muhammad Shabir, told Greater Kashmir that a joint party of troopers of 63-Rashtriya Rifles and policemen cordoned off the Tatapani area in Kalakote this morning and launched searches. “Militants present there opened fire on the search party and tried to break the cordon, the fire was retaliated triggering an encounter in which four militants and trooper were killed,” the SP added. A senior police official while giving details of the casualties said that since Saturday last 20 militants and six troopers have been killed in this frontier district. “A large group of militants had infiltrated into this side on March 23. “Two militants of this group were killed in Dharamshal area on Saturday last while three militants and a trooper were killed on Tuesday, five militants and four troopers were killed on Wednesday and six militants were killed on Thursday,” the official said. He said that with the killing four more militants and a trooper today death toll in Rajoiri gunfights had mounted to 26.
