Gulmarg Golf Course To Have World-Class Facilities15 May 2010
Gulmarg: Minister of State for Tourism Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani today said that Gulmarg Golf Course with all world-class facilities will be ready and functional this tourist season and a big promotional extravaganza will be initiated to woo international golfers to the State. The Minister said this while reviewing pace of work on Gulmarg Golf Course early this morning during which he issued instructions for completion of the project during the current tourist season. This follows his visit to inspect progress of work on Pahalgam Golf Course yesterday. Commissioner-Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Mr. Atal Dulloo, Director, Tourism, Kashmir, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah and Mr. Ranjit Nanda, Consultant to Gulmarg Golf Course accompanied the Minister. MD, J&K Cable Car Corporation, Mr. Farooq Khan and CEO, Gulmarg Development Authority, Mr. Javed Bakshi, besides other senior officers of the Tourism Department were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nasir Aslam stressed the need to create multifarious infrastructural facilities to woo tourists to the State. He directed the executing agency to ensure that work on the golf course is completed on time. “Golfing has the potential to emerge as a major tourist activity in the State. Once golf courses at Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sidhra become operational, we will be able to attract a totally new class of sports and adventure lovers to the State,” the Minister said. The visits to Pahaglam and Gulmarg golf courses have been undertaken on the instructions of the Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah, who heads the Task Force constituted for early completion of golf course projects in the State. Later, chairing a meeting of senior officers, the Minister called upon various field agencies including the Tourism Directorate, GDA and JKSCCC to work in a coordinated manner to facilitate tourists who visit the famed meadow.
