Srinagar: An Army jawan was arrested on Saturday in connection with alleged fake encounter of three youth at Machil in Kupwara district of north Kashmir. J&K police have also sought permission to arrest a Major of 4 Rajputana Rifles. Earlier, two surrendered militants - Bashir Ahmad Lone and Fayaz Ahmad - were arrested for orchestrating the killing of Muhammad Shafi, Shahzad Ahmed and Riyaz Ahmed, said north Kashmir DIG Qayoom Manhas. Abbas Hussain Shah of 161 battalion, a resident of Uri, is the main accused in the case, Manhas said. Police zeroed in on Shah after interrogating Bashir and Fayaz. Manhas said Bashir revealed that he along with Fayaz and Shah had taken the three youth to the 4 Rajputana Rifles camp at Kalaroos in Kupwara on April 27. The Major was at the camp but he refused to take the victims to the forest due to bad weather. They were told to report to the camp on April 29. When the the three youth arrived, they were taken to the forest and gunned down, Bashir reportedly told police. The police have already registered a case of kidnapping and murder against 4 Rajputana Rifles.
