Geelani’s Party Hails China’s Kashmir Stand29 August 2010
Srinagar: The Tehreek-e-Hurriyat party of Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Sunday hailed China for taking its current stand on the Kashmir issue on which Beijing had recently disallowed the chief of India’s northern military command based in the state to enter the country. Asking the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and other country’s to emulate China, the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat said that” they too should adopt the same realistic stand,” and make India realize that its occupation of Kashmir was illegal. “China-bound travellers from the state of Jammu and Kashmir are being given separate visas because Beijing considers Kashmir to be a dispute and not a part of India,” the Tehreek said. “Recently, China refused visa to the chief of the Indian northern command on the grounds that he belonged to the army wing that is in occupation of Kashmir,” it said. “Kashmir is a dispute and it can be resolved by allowing its people to exercise their right of self-determination under the resolutions passed by the United Nations,” it said.
